I’ve been under the weather with a bad head cold. I hate summer colds. I have NO idea where it came from so I’ve been lysol spraying the house down just in case. Two of my kids are in summer theatre shows and can NOT get sick. Ugh. Anyway, that is the reason I haven’t posted anything for a week. Today’s craft is SO easy. Like I’ve said before in earlier posts – I have a college daughter. She moved into her apartment a few weeks ago. She wanted a chalkboard so we went shopping for an easy idea to have in her tiny space. She is kinda going for a “woodsy” theme in her room so we found a log cut out at our local craft store and grabbed our chalkboard paint and voila, it was done. It really is that easy. TRY IT!!! (I’m doing these for my upcoming Witches Retreat in October. If you are signed up you are getting one with a cute vinyl cut out on it…just FYI).
If you live in the south go in your back yard (or your neighbors) and cut about a 1-2″ piece of log. Sand it and you will be ready. For all you city folk – go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby and use your 40% off coupon. They run anywhere between 10 – 20 dollars depending on the size. I bought the RUST-OLEUM brand chalkboard paint. It’s the best. Others do NOT compare.
Next use your sponge brush and paint a good coat of Chalkboard paint on.
I used my favorite tool to “quick dry” it and it literally was dry in 3-5 minutes. Then I did one more application, dried it again and it was done. I love this so much. It’s creative, it’s woodsy, it’s redneck and it’s perfect for my daughters college dorm room.
I left a small white rim around the log so it looked more woodsy. She loves it. Now I want to make more. Darn crafting bug… Creating is my drug…oh, and a vanilla coke zero (and maybe a brownie…you get the idea.)
