Sloppy Joes

This is one of my go-to fast recipes.  Sloppy Joes are southern…right?!  Well, I’m calling it a comfort, southern dish so there.

First thing to do is chop up 1/2 onion and one green bell pepper.  I use my food processor for the onion because my eyes can NOT take it.  I usually do more than one onion and store the rest in the fridge for future meals.

Then start browning 2 pounds of lean ground beef in a large skillet with the onion, bell pepper, & then about 3 teaspoons of minced garlic.  I add 1T butter and 1T EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) to the skillet then add the veggies and meat.

After the meat is browned and onions and bell peppers are soft, drain the meat and place back in the same pan.

Then gather the spices.

2T Brown Sugar

2t. Chili Powder

1t. Dry Mustard

1/2t. Red Pepper Flakes

2t. Salt & Pepper

1t. Slap Ya Mama Seasoning (optional)

Then add to the skillet and stir with heat on medium heat.

Then the wet ingredients:

1c. Water

1/2 c. Ketchup

2T Tomato Paste

2 T. Worcestershire Sauce

Few shakes of Tabasco Sauce (optional)

Next, toast your whole wheat buns or white buns in the oven.  Just butter those bad boys and toast to a nice golden brown.

Now you are ready to serve!  Just look at that!  Perfection.  Dare you to just have one.

Sauce will keep in the fridge IF there is any left. 🙂
