TIE DYE Firework Cake

It’s FOUR days until we celebrate Independence Day in the great U.S.A.  I’ve been on a tie dye kick lately, SO why not do it with FOOD?  You can do this cake very quickly in an afternoon.  Grab your kids and “CREATE” a memory this holiday.  You’re taste buds will thank you!
Start with this wonderful flavored cake mix and follow directions listed on the back for mixing up the batter.  My family LOVES this French Vanilla flavored cake mix.  It’s so much better than regular Vanilla flavored.  Trust me.
Grab some cake coloring dye.  I chose AmeriColor Red Red and Navy Blue.   Found mine at Hobby Lobby.  These smooth gels are the best and squeeze right out of the bottle.
You will need three bowls.  Once the cake mix is whipped up just measure 1 1/2 cups of batter for each  of the three bowls.  Add 5 drops of food coloring.  One being Red and the other Blue.  You can add more for a deeper color but 5 seemed just perfect for me.
Now comes the fun part.  Add about a 1/4 c. of the red to the center or almost center of the sprayed pan.  DON’T SPREAD IT AROUND.  Just let it sit there.
Then a scoop (1/4c.) of the white!  AGAIN DON’T MOVE IT!
And then the blue.  It is VITAL not to move it for the tie dye affect to be the result.
Now REPEAT those steps.  Red, White, Blue, Red, White, Blue…America! America! God shed His Grace on Theeeeeeee….Ok Ok… Back to the cake.  (PS.  I love a good patriotic song.)
The finished batter.  Steps repeated three times.  Put it in a 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted toward the center comes out clean.
Here it is!!!  Isn’t it PERFECT!!!  Can’t wait to dig my teeth into the scrumptious layers.
Just decorate with a simple vanilla/almond buttercream icing.  Homemade of course:
6c. Powdered Sugar, 1 stick softened butter, 1t. Vanilla, 1t. Almond Extract, Milk until desired consistency… that’s my go to recipe off the top of my head.)
Sprinkle some red and blue on and top with Sparklers or some firework decorations.  It’s important to note that you can take the time to do this as cupcakes if you wish (same method), but I wanted it in a layered cake form so that’s what I chose.)
Moist deliciousness with an AMERICAN flare.  I can’t handle the goodness.  THIS is what I’m talking about.  Have a safe 4th everyone and GOD BLESS AMERICA!
